Every detail has a source.
Here is how we get it.
Signage Finder lists 237 Tampa Bay sign companies. This page describes the research and checks behind every profile — the same written method our researchers and scripts follow — so you can judge how far to trust what you read. Latest source check: November 7, 2026.
1. Finding sign companies.
Leads come from a sweep of public map listings across Tampa Bay: Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties and their neighbours. A map listing is only a lead: its name, address, phone and hours are treated as hints, never published on their own.
A business is only listed when it has a working website of its own, that site shows the phone number or the name from the map listing, and it says it does sign work — storefront and channel letters, monument signs, vehicle wraps, banners, LED and digital signs, ADA and wayfinding, window graphics, murals or trade show displays. We leave out businesses outside Tampa Bay, sites that don’t load, businesses with only a directory or social-media page, and sites that are parked, for sale or say the business has closed. Each franchise location with its own page is its own listing; duplicates are merged by website and phone.
2. Where each detail comes from.
We record a fact only when we saw it on one of two kinds of source:
- The business’s own website (or its own location page): name, phone, published email, shop address, services, sign contractor licence wording, insurance wording, whether it builds in-house and handles permits, its portfolio, prices, logo and social accounts.
- The business’s own Google Business Profile, matched to the listing, used for opening hours and to link to its reviews. Where the website and the profile disagree on a phone number or address, the business’s website wins and the difference is logged for review.
Licence and insurance statements appear exactly as the business publishes them, linked to the page where it says so. We don’t check them against a register or an insurer: look a licence up on myfloridalicense.com or with your county, and ask for a certificate of insurance. See sign permits: what your sign company should handle.
Every profile lists its sources, which fields each one supports, and the date we checked it. Unknown stays unknown: if a business doesn’t publish its hours or prices, the profile says so instead of filling a gap.
3. How often we re-check.
Weekly, automatically. Our checker visits every website and source page listed on Signage Finder about once every 7 days. It looks for pages that have gone down and for changes in what matters — dollar amounts and opening times. A page that stays unreachable for days, or a changed price or time, is flagged for a person to review against the business’s site. The checker never edits a profile by itself.
After every research round, in full. When we add businesses, we re-verify every listing on its own site: is the site live, and does it still show the business’s phone number or name? Listings that fail are taken down. The most recent full check, on November 6, 2026, covered 253 listings: 236 were confirmed on the business’s own site and 17 were removed.
A check date means we looked at the source that day. It does not mean the business updated its page that day.
4. What we never publish.
- Star ratings or review counts copied from other platforms. We link to the reviews instead, and keep business-chosen testimonials separate.
- Invented or estimated prices, hours, licences or insurance. We don’t estimate the cost of a sign.
- Stock photos or map imagery passed off as a sign company’s work.
- A home address. We show a street address only when the business presents it as its shop or office; otherwise we say where it is based.
- The personal details of anyone who sends us a request.
- Paid placement passed off as merit. Featured listings are labeled, and featuring never changes a listing’s trust check, credentials, photos or review sources.
5. Pages are data, not instructions.
We read business websites as evidence. Nothing a page says can change our rules, and we never bypass a site’s access controls; a page that blocks automated checks is recorded as blocked, not treated as down.
6. When we get something wrong.
Sign companies change services, hours and phone numbers, and we make mistakes. Anyone can suggest a correction, free. Read our corrections policy for how to send one and what happens next.
